Okuma Earns ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification
Okuma America Corp. (Charlotte, North Carolina) has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification by PRG (Preferred Registrar Group) Inc. According to Okuma, it is the first and currently the only CNC machine tool builder to earn this ISO certification.
This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement. Using ISO 9001:2015 helps ensure that customers receive consistently good-quality products and services.
By implementing ISO standards, Okuma says it reduces operating costs by minimizing waste and errors through improved systems and processes. It also enables the company to work with various markets to ensure the compatibility of products and services.

United Grinding Names New Distributor for Northeast and Southeast U.S.
United Grinding North America Inc. recently named Syracuse Supply/APT Machine Tools a distributor in the Northeast and Southeast regions of the United States. Syracuse Supply has been a leading distributor of machine tool solutions in upstate New York since 1885; APT Machine Tools, based in Trinity, Florida, serves customers throughout the entire state of Florida.
Syracuse Supply/APT Machine Tools will supply United Grinding’s advanced grinding, eroding, laser and measurement equipment to customers in a wide range of industries. United Grinding brands to be represented by these distributors include Studer, Schaudt, Mikrosa, Blohm, Mägerle, Jung, Walter and Ewag.
600 Group Acquires Spanish Machine Tool Manufacturer
The 600 Group, a designer and manufacturer of machine tools and industrial laser systems, has acquired Kondia, a maker of manual machine tools. Kondia was at one time Spain’s largest maker of milling machines.
For over 20 years, Clausing (a leading 600 Group company) sold Kondia’s FV series in North America. The 600 Group expects to generate revenue immediately from supplying spare parts in North America and intends to begin producing the FV milling machine to complement the group’s other machine tool products in the United States.
Hurco Recognizes Distributors for Achievements
Hurco Companies Inc. recently held its annual awards banquet in Indianapolis, Indiana, to acknowledge the team of accomplished distributors and agents throughout North and South America that represents Hurco.
The winner of the Top Hurco Sales Representative Award was Gary Kittredge of Brooks Associates, the full-service distributor that represents Hurco in New England. The other winners of the Hurco Top 5 Award were Jim Braun of Braun Machinery (Michigan); Mark Finnell of Reynolds Machinery (Ohio); Tim Navalta of Braun Machinery (Michigan); and Dennis Visser of Machinery Source (Illinois).
The distributorships were also recognized for their achievements in representing Hurco. The Top 5 Distributors from first to fifth were Braun Machinery (Michigan); Brooks Associates (Massachusetts); Reynolds Machinery (Ohio); Humston Machinery (Indiana); and, tied for fifth place, Stone Machinery (Minnesota) and Applied Machine Solutions (Georgia).
Humston Machinery won the Top Distributor Market Share Award and the award for Top Distributor Growth went to Brooks Associates.
