PROFILE

From the beginning of time the father and son conflict has been universal. The first caveman probably resisted when his eager male child suggested that smoothing the rough edges of a primitive rock wheel would make it roll easier and faster! The first deburring?

Yet when resistance and confrontation is based on a foundation of caring and concern for improvement, the results will be a mutually gratifying bond: both at a personal and productive level.

Based on a keen sense of family ethics, Northfield Precision was founded by William A. Steffen, Murray Farber and Robert Levy in 1952. The first products manufactured were basic; microspin bearings, precision gear blanks, precision limit stops and miniature slip clutches for the defense industry. They filled the relatively simplistic needs of the industry, compared to today's hightech standards. Diligent in their efforts, Northfield Precision became a public corporation in 1959 and introduced the first precision air chuck to hold 0.0001" 2.54 (:) TIR to the machine tool industry in 1962.

Since then Northfield has earned a valued reputation with OEM's and end users by providing superior quality and service. Today, Northfield chucks are used worldwide in automotive, aerospace, electrical/electronic, medical/ optical, machine tool, plastic/ceramics, appliance and education/training applications. Yet even with a national and international reach, basic harmonious family ethics prevail. You can feel a sense of pride, teamwork and enthusiasm in every department.

Over forty years of precision manufacturing is a long time! And let's face it, you don't survive in an industry like this without changing with the times. To illustrate "the changing of the guards" on a personal level that reflects both the tradition and the innovation of the Northfield success story, meet Aldo and Paul De Feo. They happen to be father and son. But the similarity stops at the shared last name.
