Voxel Innovations is an advanced contract manufacturer based in Knightdale, North Carolina, specializing in pulsed electrochemical machining (PECM), serving industries such as medical devices, aerospace, defense and energy, supplying critical, high-value metal parts. 

PECM is an advanced, non-contact, non-thermal process for removing material from a metal workpiece via electrochemical dissolution. A shaped tool (cathode), designed as the inverse of the desired geometry, and the workpiece (anode) are immersed or separated by a microscopic electrolyte gap. A pulsed DC current is sometimes used, which helps improve precision, stability, and surface quality compared to continuous-current ECM.

PECM has some key advantages over legacy manufacturing processes, including, but not limited to: 

• Superfinished surfaces down to .005-0.5μm Ra, inherent to the process with no additional postprocessing required

• Repeatability via custom cathodes, allowing dozens or hundreds of features or parts to be machined in-parallel

• Exotic alloy machining by utilizing electrochemistry; agnosticism to material hardness allowing Inconel to be machined at a similar rate to copper 

• Tight-tolerance, micron-level accuracy on complex geometries and sensitive features like thin walls, avoiding burrs, recast layers, tool vibration or thermal distortion 

• Minimal tool wear allowing the process to scale manufacturing to production-volumes with ease
